High blood pressure

In those with high blood pressure (140 over 90 mmHg), the heart has to pump much harder than normal to keep up blood flow around the body. As a result, the heart muscle tires and eventually weakens from the demands made upon it. Less oxygen-rich blood reaches vital organs increasing the chance of having a heart attack, stroke or congestive heart failure. Risk factors include those for heart attack.
