IBS is a common intestinal condition for which there is no cure. Abdominal pain and cramps, changes in bowel movements (diarrhoea, constipation, or both), gassiness, bloating, nausea, a powerful and uncontrollable urge to defaecate (urgency) and the passage of a sticky fluid (mucus) during bowel movements are all typical symptoms. The feeling that the bowels are still not completely empty after finishing a bowel movement is quite common. With mild IBS, symptoms are slight. Moderate IBS can disrupt normal activities and may cause some psychological problems. However, the constant and intense, physical pain of severe IBS can make living a normal life quite difficult with ensuing psychological problems.
